Kingston sofa by William Plunkett, 1967.
The Kingston range was well-received when launched in 1967. The design offered great flexibility to residential and commercial customers and its concept for modularity forged new possibilities for seating.
Using a collection of flat-bar aluminium frames, various lengths of upholstered barrels could be fixed to perform as bench seating, chairs, sofas and stools.
William Plunkett worked on several important interiors such as the QE2 and all Russell and Bromley stores using variations of the Kingston.
The sofa offered is a scarce period example using high-quality velvet upholstery. The condition is exceptional and shows little – if any – signs of wear.
