Danish desk, anonymous design c1965

The desk is of unknown designer or manufacturer. It was purchased in mid-sixties from the highly respected Copenhagen retailer Illums Bolighus and it is likely the desk is the work of a Danish designer and reputable cabinetmaker.

The design for the solid and veneered oak frame, top and drawers is understated, though the arrangement drawers in purposefully separated creating a graphic front elevation. The drawers are suspended through discrete steel runners and extend the full depth of the top.

The construction is of the frame is highlighted through inset wenge fillets. This is the sole decorative detail in the design.

The understructure of stretchers and uprights echoes the formation of legs and arrangement of drawers in this highly architectural piece of furniture.
