Chair 68 by Alvar Aalto for Artek.
Designed by Alvar Aalto in 1935, the Chair 68 embodies Aalto’s design language through its simplicity and functionality. The timeless design shares the same generous round seat as the iconic Stool 60, with the addition of a slender curved backrest. Stackable up to 4 chairs, the Chair 68 is space efficient and versatile, available in a range of finishes and upholsteries to suit any interior.
Made in Finland from birch wood, Chair 68 is part of the extensive L-leg collection of chairs, stools, benches and tables. To create the distinctive L-leg, cuts are made in the end of a piece of wood, into which veneer strips are inserted and glued. Developed by Aalto and furniture manufacturer Otto Korhonen in the late 1920s, the innovative technique was patented by Aalto in 1933. The simplified bending method increased the component’s stability, allowing for the unity of wood’s warm, organic properties with functional and hardwearing designs.
The upholstered chair comes with natural lacquered birch legs, for other leg finishes with the upholstered seat please enquire.
